Romano details Chelsea’s current stance on possible blockbuster swap deal

Chelsea are still interested in Victor Osimhen and have held further talks with Napoli this week over a possible deal according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market this summer and have made a number of new signings as they look to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad to give him the best chance of guiding the club back into the Champions League.

The club are set to complete the signings of Samu Omorodion and Pedro Neto before the season starts having agreed deals worth £35m and £51.4m with Atletico Madrid and Wolves respectively.

Chelsea still interested in Osimhen

Despite signing two strikers in Omorodion and Marc Guiu, Chelsea are still in with a chance of completing a deal for Nigeria international Osimhen.

Discussions have been held with Napoli over the possibility of including Osimhen as part of a deal which would see Romelu Lukaku head to Naples and reunite with Antonio Conte.

The Blues are thought to want a loan deal, and reports have suggested Osimhen isn’t prepared to reduce his salary which could be a problem for the club.

The Osimhen saga could come full circle and Chelsea were strongly linked with the Nigerian earlier this summer, but reports said they had ended their interest due to the cost of the deal.

It appears this situation could be one that runs right up to deadline day, but Romano has provided an update stating Chelsea are still interested if the Osimhen changes his stance.

“Chelsea talked again this week to Napoli around Osimhen and Lukaku, they still are interested,” he told Playback.

“This could be something for the final days or week to see if Osimhen could change his stance on the deal.”

Osimhen would very much be a statement signing, with the 25-year-old one of Europe’s most prolific goal scorers over the past few seasons and if Chelsea were able to pull off a deal it would be quite the coup given they don’t have Champions League football.
