“Negotiations likely to take place in due course” – Chelsea identify next star to offer new contract

Chelsea want to reward Nicolas Jackson with a two year contract extension following an impressive first season at the club according to journalist Matt Law.

Jackson arrived last summer from Spanish side Villarreal in a deal worth a reported £32m and scored 14 Premier League goals in his debut campaign.

The Senegal international earned plaudits for his all round play and he was an important part of how Chelsea played last season as they secured a top six finish and a return to European football.

The 23-year-old played far more last season than people would have expected, partly down to Christopher Nkunku’s injury problems but he’s shown if he can brush up on his finishing he’s potentially a 20 goals a season striker given the amount of chances he missed.

Jackson, like the majority of Chelsea’s new signings under the new ownership signed a long term contract, but Law has reported that after Cole Palmer signed a two year extension as a reward for his fine form last season the Blues would like to do the same for the Senegalese.

He took to X.com and said:

“Understand Chelsea would also like to extend Nicolas Jackson’s contract by another two years and reward him for his impressive first season at the club. Negotiations likely to take place in due course #cfc.”

Jackson didn’t feature in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America despite being part of the squad as he continued his recovery from an ankle injury picked up over the summer on international duty, but got his first minutes against Inter Milan last Sunday as he came on as a second half substitute.

The Blues have already signed a striker this summer in Marc Guiu but they are looking to bring in another one before the window closes and have been strongly linked with a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Having featured so sparingly in pre-season it will be interesting to see if Jackson starts against Manchester City on Sunday, but Chelsea fans will be looking forward to seeing what he can produce in his second season at the club.
