Chelsea face race against the clock with ambitious target for remainder of the window

Chelsea expect as many as seven players to leave the club before the end of the transfer window according to The Athletic.

It’s once again been another busy summer for the Blues who have made a number of new signings, most notably Pedro Neto and Joao Felix, whilst they could still add a striker before Friday’s deadline.

The main priority will be outgoings and much has been publicised of Chelsea’s squad size and there’s a number of players they need to move on with very little time to do it.

Chelsea expect seven players to leave

Perhaps the toughest task for Chelsea is finding a way to move Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell on, and whilst there’s talks over a possible swap deal involving Sterling and Jadon Sancho there appears to be little interest in Chilwell.

The Blues have already moved on the likes of Romelu Lukaku, whilst Kepa Arrizabalaga is on the verge of joining Bournemouth on a season loan after extending his contract by a year.

Chilwell is one of a number of players Chelsea need to move on before the end of the window.

However, that’s just scratching the surface and The Athletic report that Chelsea are expecting up to seven players to depart on a permanent basis, including loans with an obligation to buy, whilst they are also looking to do several normal loan deals.

Aside from the high profile names that need to be moved on, there’s a number of other players that are expected to leave with the likes of Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana yet to move on, with the club also said to be open to offers for Carney Chukwuemeka who hasn’t featured since the second game of pre-season.

By seemingly leaving things so late the Blues may have to accept deals that they perhaps wouldn’t have accepted earlier in the window in order to move players on, and clubs will also try and take advantage of the fact they know Chelsea are looking to sell and could come in with low offers.

One thing Chelsea have been good at is selling players and they need to draw on that over the last few days of the window.
