Chelsea ace sends message to fans ahead of return to Stamford Bridge

Levi Colwill has admitted Chelsea will need the supporters for the whole season as the Blues prepare to return to Stamford Bridge.

The squad returned from their pre-season tour of America with just one win from their five games, but there were positives to take and Enzo Maresca and the players will no doubt have learnt a lot.

Attention now turns to the final pre-season game against Italian champions Inter Milan on Sunday, which is the final chance for Maresca to see his team in action for before the season begins.

Colwill can’t wait to get back to Stamford Bridge

The game against Inter will be the first chance for the supporters to see Maresca and the new signings at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s home record improved significantly last season under Mauricio Pochettino after struggles in recent years and Maresca will be hoping he can make Stamford Bridge a fortress like it’s been in the past.

Colwill will be hoping he’s part of Chelsea’s first choice defensive pairing.

Colwill, who came through the ranks at the club said he’s missed playing in front of the fans and is excited to get back out on the Stamford Bridge pitch.

“Being back at the Bridge with our fans is very exciting,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“I don’t think they understand how much we miss hearing them over the summer. It’s definitely going to be exciting, and we will need them for the whole season, just like we did last year.”

Chelsea have struggled defensively in pre-season and have conceded 12 goals in their five games on tour, and Colwill will be hoping he and his team-mates can put in an improved defensive display.

Colwill has taken on Thiago Silva’s number six shirt for this season and he will be hoping to form part of Maresca’s first choice defensive pairing.
