Forgotten Chelsea man still expected to leave despite failing to secure deadline day move

David Datro Fofana is still expected to leave Chelsea in the next few days according to Fabrizio Romano despite failing to secure a deadline day move.

The Blues were busy on the final day of window and despite being unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Victor Osimhen they did complete a deal for Jadon Sancho, whilst moving a number of players on.

Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah completed late moves to Arsenal, Everton and West Ham respectively but Chelsea had no luck in finding a new home for Ben Chilwell.

Datro Fofana still expected to leave Chelsea

However, there’s still a number of players at the club who need to be moved on, but there are still some windows that remain open.

Datro Fofana falls into that category and Romano has reported the expectation is the striker will still leave in the next few days with windows in Turkey, Portugal and Saudi Arabia still open.

He took to X.com and said:

“David Datro Fofana still expected to leave Chelsea in the next days. Turkey, Greece, Portugal, Saudi and Holland among markets being explored to pick best option. Hoffenheim and Sunderland opened talks to sign Datro on Deadline Day but negotiations collapsed.”
Datro Fofana has made just four appearances for the Blues.
The striker joined the Blues from Norwegian side Molde in January 2023 but has only made four appearances for the club and had loan spells at both Union Berlin and Burnley last season.
The 21-year-old scored four goals in 15 appearances for the Clarets as they got relegated from the Premier League whilst he could only manage one goal in 12 appearances for Union Berlin.
There’s definitely potential in the striker but he’s currently nowhere near the first team picture and a permanent departure or loan move is the best solution because if he remains at Chelsea he’s unlikely to play any football until January at the earliest.
