“I still think he will shine” – Ex-Premier league star names player he’s most excited to watch next season

Former Premier League player Troy Deeney has revealed Cole Palmer is the player he’s most looking forward to seeing next season.

Palmer is preparing for his second season with the Blues following his deadline day move from Manchester City last summer.

The 22-year-old exceeded all expectations last season as he took the Premier League by storm, scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists as he was named Premier League Young Player of the Year.

Palmer missed Chelsea’s tour of America following his exploits with England at Euro 2024 and has only played 45 minutes in the build up to the new season.

Despite the return to fitness of Christopher Nkunku and the signing of Pedro Neto, it feels the Blues will once again be hoping Palmer can produce the goods.

It will be a tough ask to replicate what he did last season and Palmer will have to deal with being a marked man and the opposition potentially doubling up on him, but it remains to be seen if they can stop him.

Palmer signed a new two year contract extension keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

Whether a Chelsea fan or not it feels like many will be keeping an eye on Palmer to see what he can do this season and Deeney has named him as the player he’s most looking forward to watching.

“The player I am looking forward to seeing most is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer,” he told BBC Sport.

“Last season he showed so much of that fearlessness on the ball that I love to see. Palmer was a bit of a surprise package after his move from Manchester City, and I don’t think teams were always set up specifically to stop him.

“It will be different this time, and much harder now everyone knows how good he is, but he is so talented, I still think he will shine.”

Palmer has been nominated for both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year awards and it would seem likely he will get his hands on one more award as recognition for his superb season.

Despite featuring sparingly in pre-season it would be a surprise not to see Palmer in the starting line up against Manchester City on Sunday.
