€24.5m signing gives first interview and explains what his coach is going to demand

Enzo Maresca in America

Filip Jorgensen only just signed for Chelsea, but he’s already done his first interview for the club, following his debut against Club America earlier this week.

He spoke the club’s official site, and it was full of some really interesting stuff about his first contact with his new manager Enzo Maresca, and the type of football he will be expected to play at Chelsea.

“We talked a bit, just very shortly, before I signed,” Jorgensen replied when asked how much he’d spoken to his new boss.

“He wanted me to come here and I wanted to come here, so it was a short conversation. Just to get to know each other a bit. In Spain we always tried to build from the back and tried to play out with the goalkeeper, so I would say I am pretty comfortable with that.”

“I asked how the manager wants to play but it’s been very quick. I trained the day before the game, but I’m looking forward to getting to know his style of play better.”

A rush to adaptation

Jorgensen went from just having his name mentioned in a few rumours to signing for us, to making his debut on Wednesday night, all the space of little more than a week. There’s a reason Chelsea got their work done so fast – as the man himself said, every session he gets with the team and his new coach is vital.

Yes he’s used to playing with the ball at his feet, but there’s more to it than that. That just means he’s got the tools to fit into Enzo Maresca’s team, not that he already knows exactly what to do and when. There’s a lot of specific information to take in, and these next few weeks will be crucial.
