Enzo Maresca gives Chelsea fans huge rush with news of potential transfer debut this weekend

Chelsea have made a number of signings this summer, but most of them are not the most inspiring names. Backups, young talents and rotation options, in the main. One who really stands out, however, is Pedro Neto. He’s an established Premier League player coming into his prime, signed for €63m and looking ready to instantly upgrade the first team.

No wonder the fans are more excited to see him than Renato Veiga or Omari Kellyman.

They won’t have to wait long either, all being well. Enzo Maresca has just taken his first press conference of the season, where he revealed the former Wolves man’s status ahead of Sunday’s game against Man City:

“His physical condition is good. The only problem with Pedro is he has only been here for two or three days and needs to understand the way we want to play but he is completely fit. We will see if it’s from the start or from the bench.”

A big reception at his new home

The last few years have been a bit of a whirlwind for Chelsea fans, and they will return to Stamford Bridge this weekend with a new manager to get behind (again), a new group of players and a lot of mystery and uncertainty on the horizon.

It’s good for them to have something they get really get hyped for therefore, and we think Neto will be just that. Assuming that Maresca errs on the side of caution and leaves the 24 year old on the bench, his introduction in the second half is likely to generate a huge wave of enthusiasm from the crowd – unless we’re already 3-0 down at that point, of course.

Let’s hope, instead, that the game is still poised nicely and Neto can come on with the chance to make a truly memorable match winning intervention and get this campaign off to a perfect start…
