Enzo Maresca has decided on one of his Chelsea vice-captains for this season

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has decided on who will be one of his vice-captains for the upcoming new season ahead, according to a report yesterday.

Maresca had already hinted at this earlier in the day with some comments he made in the aftermath of the final pre-season game of the American tour, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea will make SECOND Oscar Bobb approach, closing on Grabriel Mec!!

As below, Maresca was asked about Reece James passing the armband to Enzo Fernandez, and he replied:

“Enzo is one of the important players. Reece gave the armband to Enzo. This shows how Enzo is respected inside the squad. It’s quite clear.”

And further to this, a report came out claiming that Fernandez WILL be one of Maresca’s vice-captains this season, as he also was for Mauricio Pochettino last season.

Fernandez for captaincy

Enzo is used to wearing the armband

As reported by The Times yesterday, Fernández is expected to be appointed one of Chelsea’s vice-captains this season.

So really, it comes as no surprise at all seeing as Fernandez wore the armband a lot last season too. But I think the fact it’s such a big thing is due to the racist incident Fernandez was involved in earlier in the season.

But it looks like Maresca and the Chelsea players have collectively just put this behind them all and the situation has all been cleared up as far as they are all concerned.

I’m sure everyone will have an opinion on this, but in terms of internally, it looks like they have all moved on.
