Enzo Maresca drops hint on Chelsea’s transfer activity before window shuts

Enzo Maresca has said “we will see what happens” when asked about the possibility of Chelsea singing Manchester United star Jadon Sancho.

It’s set to be a hectic end to the window for the Blues with the club still needing to move a number of players on, whilst they are looking to bring a striker in.

The biggest issue facing Chelsea is finding new homes for the likes of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, with there seemingly very little interest in the pair.

Whilst the main priority in terms of incomings is a striker there have been talks over a possible swap deal with United which would see Sterling head to Old Trafford with Sancho coming to Stamford Bridge.

Sterling is thought to be open to the switch, whilst some reports claim Sancho would prefer a move to Chelsea over Juventus, who are also interested.

Maresca was asked about Sancho ahead of Thursday’s game against Servette in the Europa Conference League and gave little away.

Sancho could join Chelsea as part of a swap deal involving Sterling.

“I said that if we have to sign a player just for signing, I don’t want,” he told reporters.

“But if we can sign a player who can help us, for sure I want. Jadon is not our player. I know Jadon very well from many years with City. I know him very well. But he is not our player. We will see what happens.”

The Blues may have to get creative when it comes to moving Sterling on and the swap deal could be there best possibility, although a lot still needs to happen before it can be considered a possibility.

Quite where Sancho would fit in at Chelsea and if he’s even needed are both good points given the club’s plethora of attacking options, which have been further enhanced by the arrival of Pedro Neto and Joao Felix.

It still looks unlikely Sancho will be a Chelsea player before the end of the window and a lot of it will depend on if United are keen to take Sterling, but we won’t have to wait long with Friday’s deadline looming.
