Enzo Maresca on boos from Chelsea fans.

Enzo Maresca says new signing could debut on Sunday because of this important physical reason

Chelsea fans saw new signing Joao Felix paraded on the pitch midway through last night’s game against Servette, and of course post-match all the questions were about when we might see the Portugal star in action.

The excitement might have been diminished a little by the fact that Felix was playing for Chelsea not long ago, but the addiction to transfers is so strong that many are treating this like it’s the first time we will see the former Atletico Madrid man pull on a Chelsea shirt.

Fans get hyped for second Felix debut

Enzo Maresca admitted that physically the attacker might be prepared, but he was going to need some time to adapt to the strict new style in place at Chelsea:

“If he is available, then for sure he can have a chance to play [this Sunday against Wolves]” the Chelsea head coach said of his attacking addition.

“In terms of knowing the way we want to play, probably not yet [ready].”

Felix got minutes in preseason with Atletico and was even included in the travelling party for their opening La Liga game of the season last weekend before pulling out at the last to come to London to complete his transfer. Maresca pointed out that this would count in his favour in terms of a rapid return to action for Chelsea.

“In terms of physicality, I think he is ready because he was already playing games there [at Atletico Madrid]. He needs more time to understand the way we want to play but overall I think he can play.”

Felix’s last debut for Chelsea saw him play really well then get a red card against Fulham. Let’s hope this one goes a little better.

By the sounds of things, we can expect to see him off the bench at the very least.
