Conor Gallagher is expected to complete his move to Atletico Madrid in the next few days but has yet to agree personal terms according to The Athletic.
Chelsea have agreed a fee worth £33.7m with the La Liga outfit for the 24-year-old who is schedule to fly to Spain on Tuesday to complete the formalities of the deal.
According to reports Gallagher is set to sign a five year year contract which could be worth up to £200,000 per week once bonuses are taken into consideration.
Gallagher yet to agree personal terms with Atletico
The future of the England international has been a topic of conversation for the past 18 months with the player inside the final 12 months of his contract.
Gallagher has turned down the offer of a new contract from Chelsea three times due to the deal only being two years with the option of a further 12 months.
Things were in danger of turning sour with reports suggesting Gallagher would be banished from first team training when he returned to Cobham, but a solution has seemingly been reached, which would appear to suit all parties well.
However, The Athletic have issued an update which could potentially put the deal in doubt and have reported that Atletico are in advanced talks to sign midfielder Javi Guerra from Valencia, with an agreement reached in principle worth around £21.4m plus add ons.
The report adds that Atletico can’t guarantee both signings will be made, which leaves open the possibility that one of the deals could fall through.
The Athletic also state that although Gallagher is expected to complete his move to the Spanish Capital in the coming days he’s yet to agree personal terms with Atletico.
It would perhaps seem that Atletico are covering themselves incase Gallagher for whatever reason has a last minute change of heart, but it’s certainly interesting they are progressing with a deal for Guerra even though Gallagher has said yes to joining the club.
