How Billy Gilmour transfer could help Chelsea seal £25.7m sale they’re desperate to make

The dual transfer stories of Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen rumble on, and this afternoon Sky Sports had the latest.

It’s always seemed impossible that a Serie A team was going to be able to afford to buy Lukaku from us, given his huge cost and wages, but after a few years of loans it seems he’s finally in the zone where he’s going to be able to move permanently, although the deal will have to be arranged perfectly.

Sky say they will pay £21.4m up front, plus £4.3m in bonuses

The £38m release clause looks long forgotten now – Chelsea are pretty happy to get £26m and be done with it. It’s almost like Napoli knew this all along and just waited for us to crumble.

Sky note that Napoli’s sporting directors are in London to discuss Billy Gilmour’s move there – so things could move fast.
