“I was not happy” – Enzo Maresca picks out one Chelsea player for criticism after another limp showing

Enzo Maresca has already made it clear that he’s not afraid to criticise players, and today it was Mykhailo Mudryk coming under fire.

In his press conference after the game, Maresca was asked about the winger, who was taken off at half time for Pedro Neto. The coach didn’t try to protect his player, and was open in his reasoning:

“I was not happy. In some moments we can manage situations better,” the manager explained.

“He was working hard off the ball but on the ball I expect a bit more quality from Misha. He had some good moments today but the reason why was to change it and give Pedro some minutes.”

This comes just days after Maresca called out his winger for “a lot of mistakes” in his performance against Servette in midweek. We were stunned the Ukrainian got the nod over Neto today from the start – we can’t imagine that will happen again anytime soon. As far as we’re concerned, we don’t want to see Mudryk anywhere but the Conference League unless his form improves massively.

Mudryk plays his way out of Chelsea plans once again

It feels like Mudryk has played his way down the pecking order under yet another manager. He can’t say he’s been hard done by – he’s started 2 of 3 games so far this campaign so far despite a pretty anonymous preseason.

There has been so little improvement in Mudryk’s game since he arrived, despite the different approach in tactics and coaching of various different managers. It’s hard to believe there are many fans remaining who still have faith he can ever become good, let alone the world class player we hoped for.

The (much disputed) £88.5m or so we paid for him is increasingly looking like one of the worst deals we ever did – and that’s saying something.

    1. I think I like the way Maressca boldly speaks out about players performance, it will make them be on their toes.

  1. Yesterday was my happiest moment for Chelsea. Hopefully that game plan continues. It really worked, it works. We do not have to criticize a player with that kind of goal harvest….maybe, lessons learned.
