Insider gives update on PSG striker and Joao Felix alternatives as the clock ticks

Chelsea’s transfer window started out very slow and considered, and was enough to convince us they might have a plan.

Now they seem to just be thrashing around, and any pretence of a long term strategy has been forgotten. At the moment the hot deal is bringing in Joao Felix – a player who nobody really wants, we certainly don’t need, and in fact we already tried out, little over a year ago.

Up front, our attempts to sign a striker have led to nothing, all summer, and with the season now closing in, we’re hearing all kinds of names thrown around. The latest this morning was Goncalo Ramos, the former Benfica striker currently having a very average time at PSG.

We’re not surprising to hear him mentioned – there are really not many options left out there.

Top insider’s update on double story

Ben Jacobs has swooped in this afternoon to fill us in on the skinny on both. According to the well connected insider, talks are still ongoing with Atletico over Felix. But interestingly Jacobs says “he is one of several options.”

Several options for what? The only reason we can see for signing Felix is to hand Atletico the money they need to hand us back for Conor Gallagher. Until that point, there was no indication at all that we wanted (or needed) another floaty creative attacking midfielder. So who, or what, are these “others”?

As for Ramos, Jacobs is able to shoot that one down pretty comfortably. He dismisses the idea, saying there’s “no truth” in the links, and that Ramos is “not a name discussed by Chelsea.”

We can still see it happening if PSG make him available on a loan later in the window and we remain desperate, but he’s clearly not a priority or a super highly rated player by our staff.
