“Is it an upgrade?” – TalkSPORT pundit criticises Chelsea’s summer recruitment

One TalkSPORT pundit has been criticising the latest recruitment done by the Chelsea decision makers during this summer’s transfer window so far.

There is still time left in this window of course, and Chelsea are still likely to be doing more bits of business whether outgoings or arrivals, or both. But one pundit has been questioning the recruitment so far, and in particular, one signing that has been made and one sale too.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea will make SECOND Oscar Bobb approach, closing on Grabriel Mec!!

Conor Gallagher is joining Atletico Madrid and is in Spain now to complete that move this week. And pundit Darren Bent believes that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was signed as Gallagher’s replacement before Gallagher even left.

It’s been very clear for a long time that Gallagher was going to be sold by Chelsea this summer, and it looks like Dewsbury-Hall was signed in because he knows how Enzo Maresca wants to play, so he is seen as a much better fit for this Chelsea side.

Not an upgrade?

Dewsbury-Hall knows Maresca very well

Former Premier League striker Bent is not sure that Dewsbury-Hall is an upgrade on Gallagher and has questioned the signing in some latest comments.

In words cited by The Chelsea Chronicle this week, Bent said:

“The signings, I mean, I like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but I mean to bring him in and sell Gallagher. Is it an upgrade? I am not quite sure it is.”

Personally I think they are quite different players really in terms of what they offer. I think Chelsea just signed Dewsbury-Hall for extra squad cover and the fact he knows Maresca’s style of play so well, not necessarily as a Gallagher replacement.
