“He’s a very good fit for this system” – Maresca full of praise for Chelsea ace after Club America win

Enzo Maresca was full of praise for Christopher Nkunku after Chelsea’s win against Club America and said he loves the attacker.

Nkunku made it three goals in three pre-season games as he opened the scoring from the penalty spot, before Marc Guiu scored his first goal for the Blues, and Noni Madueke added another from the spot as Chelsea ran out 3-0 winners.

It was Chelsea’s first win under the Italian and it was a much improved showing from the opening two games against Wrexham and Celtic.

Maresca loves Nkunku

Nkunku, who arrived from RB Leipzig last summer in a deal worth £52m had his debut campaign wrecked by injury and was limited to just 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

However, the Frenchman appears to have rested well over the summer and he looks really sharp and back to his best which is a huge plus for the Blues.

The 26-year-old is a quality operator and if he can stay fit he is a genuine game changer for Chelsea and will win the club a lot of games next season.

The France international appears to be a great fit for Maresca’s system given his versatility across the attacking areas and he could find himself featuring as a number nine next season if the Blues don’t enter the market.

After the game Maresca was full of praise for Nkunku saying he “loves” him and that he’s a great fit for the system.

“I knew Nkunku before I joined and I love him. He can play in the pocket, as a nine and winger. He’s a very good fit for this system,” he said.

The prospect of Nkunku linking up with Cole Palmer next season is a mouth watering one for Chelsea and their supporters and one that will surely lead to the Blues scoring a lot of goals as they look to return to the Champions League.
