Enzo Maresca issues positive injury update on Chelsea trio following Club America win

Enzo Maresca has provided a positive injury update on three members of the squad following the victory over Club America on Wednesday.

The Blues recored their first win of pre-season as they ran out 3-0 winners in Atlanta thanks to a penalty apiece from Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke, whilst teenager Marc Guiu got his first goal for the club.

It was a much improved showing from Chelsea which will no doubt please Maresca following the games against Celtic and Wrexham.

Levi Colwill missed the game against Club America with “load management” given as the reason for his absence, but Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was handed his first minutes in a Chelsea shirt and he assisted Marc Guiu for Chelsea’s second goal.

Nkunku, Malo Gusto and Benoit Badiashile all played but went off after appearing to pick up minor injuries, however Maresca provided positive news on the trio after the game.

“Fortunately for Malo, Benoit and Christo, all of them, it was just cramp,” he told Chelsea’s website.

Nicolas Jackson and Moises Caicedo are still yet to feature on the tour but the 44-year-old added the duo were getting close to a return to action.

“For Nicolas and Moi, they are very close. They are still doing some work apart from the team but hopefully next week they can start to train with us,” he added.

It would appear the game against Manchester City on the weekend will be to soon for the pair, which means they could feature for the first time on the final game of the tour against Real Madrid.

Given the injury issues that have plagued the club over the last few seasons, it’s vital the Blues come through pre-season with a clean bill of health and start the new campaign with a fully fit squad to choose from.
