Enzo Maresca speaks at press conference

“At the moment, there is not any update on that” – Maresca speaks as future of fan favourite reaches critical stage

Enzo Maresca has admitted there’s no update at the moment over whether Conor Gallagher will be allowed to train with the first team when they return from America.

Gallagher is currently on holiday following his exploits with England at Euro 2024 and speculation over his future has been rife given he’s into the final year of his contract.

Chelsea have agreed a fee worth around £34m with Atletico Madrid for the midfielder and the La Liga outfit are waiting on a decision from the 24-year-old who has also turned down three offers of a new contract from the Blues.

Maresca unsure if Gallagher will train with first team

Things are in danger of turning sour in the Gallagher situation and reports emerged on Friday that the academy graduate wouldn’t be training with the first team when they return from America.

Gallagher was reportedly spotted at Cobham on Friday and is locked in talks with Chelsea to find a solution to his future with Atletico wanting an answer from him by the end of the weekend.

Chelsea’s offer a three year contract remains on the table, but Gallagher is believed to want a longer term deal with the club reluctant to offer more as they have concerns over how he would fit into Enzo Maresca’s system.

A solution to Gallagher’s future is likely to be reached over the weekend.

Maresca was asked about the situation as he spoke to the media ahead of the game against Manchester City on Saturday and admitted he didn’t know if Gallagher would be training with the first team or not.

“At the moment, there is not any update on that,” he told reporters.

“The only thing I can say is that he was in contact with the club to find a solution. I don’t think it’s something new.

“In football, every summer, different clubs have some problems with some players and then at the end, they find a solution and everyone is happy. Hopefully the same can happen in this situation.”

A quick resolution needs to be found one way or another but once again Chelsea’s treatment of players is being called into question and this isn’t the first time it’s happened under this ownership.
