Surprise Serie A side enters race for unwanted 29-year-old

Napoli are weighing up the possibility of signing Kepa Arrizabalaga amid uncertainty over the future of Alex Meret according to reports.

It’s been a busy summer at Chelsea with a number of new faces coming through the door at Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to strengthen their squad and return to the Champions League next season.

It’s not just about incomings and the club have a number of players they are looking to offload before the window closes whether that be on loan or permanently.

Napoli weighing up move for Arrizabalaga

Outgoings have been slow this summer, in part due to the Euros and Copa America taking place but the only departures of note have been Ian Maatsen and Omari Hutchinson, whilst the Blues have also got Malang Sarr’s wages off their books.

One player the club are desperate to move on is Arrizabalaga who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid where he made 20 appearances in all competitions as Los Blancos won a La Liga and Champions League double.

Arrizabalaga is set to leave Chelsea this summer.

The 29-year-old has one year left on his deal and reports have suggested Chelsea would accept a fee in the region of £12.5m for the keeper.

Saudi side Al-Ittihad had expressed interest earlier in the summer, but they switched their attention elsewhere after having an initial offer rejected.

The Spain international is holding out for a return to the Spanish capital but that move is very much dependant on Andriy Lunin, who also has one year left on his deal leaving the club.

However, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have reported that Napoli are considering a move for the Spaniard amid concerns over the future of Meret.

Chelsea made Arrizabalaga the most expensive goalkeeper in the world back in 2018 when they paid Athletic Bilbao £71.6m for his services, but despite a positive start it’s safe to say his time at Stamford Bridge hasn’t been a success.
