“I have no doubt about this” – Chelsea’s £52m man on his goal for this season

Chelsea in preseason before their game against Man City.

Christopher Nkunku has revealed his goal for this season is to “play and be confident” following an injury ravaged debut campaign.

Nkunku, who arrived last summer in a deal worth £52m from German side RB Leipzig hit the ground running in pre-season under Mauricio Pochettino and there was a lot of excitement surrounding the Frenchman.

Unfortunately he picked up a knee injury in the last game of the tour which would rule him out for four months and further injury issues limited him to just 14 appearances in all competitions.

Nkunku reveals his goal for the season

However, after having a break this summer Nkunku looks refreshed and impressed for Chelsea during pre-season, scoring three goals across their six matches.

The France international is seemingly a perfect fit for Maresca’s system given his versatility in the attacking third of the pitch and he’s set for a key role this season.

It’s a huge plus Nkunku got much needed minutes in his legs during pre-season and has come through unscathed.

Nkunku will be hoping his injury issues of last season are behind him.

Both he and Chelsea will very much hope his injury issues are behind him and he’s one of the few players in the squad with world class ability and is arguably the best finisher at the club.

Speaking ahead of the season Nkunku has revealed what his goal is as he looks to help Chelsea get back into the Champions League.

“My goal this season is to play and to be confident,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“I know if I am happy and confident in my body, I can show what I am able to do. I have no doubt about this.”

Nkunku is set to start Chelsea’s opening game of the season against Manchester City on Sunday, and if he can perform to his best and stay fit he will play a major part in any success the Blues have this season.
