“Not Chelsea’s problem” – Enzo Maresca defends Chelsea selling up academy players

With Conor Gallagher seemingly being on the verge of being sold by Chelsea this summer, Enzo Maresca has defended the club’s stance on selling up academy players.

As well as Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah is very likely to be joining him on the way out of the doors at Stamford Bridge this summer, joining the likes of Ian Maatsen and Lews Hall as well, and many others before and that will follow.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea will make SECOND Oscar Bobb approach, closing on Grabriel Mec!!

It’s just how things are at Chelsea right now, but it is something that really angers many of the loyal Blues fan base.

But Maresca has defended the club and seems to suggest that it is down to the financial restrictions from Profit and Sustainability Rules and FFP that forces Chelsea to have to sell academy players, and he does have a point.

Home grown players represent pure profit sales, so selling them gets you the best income in terms of profit, this is part of the rules.

However, perhaps Chelsea might need to stop signing so many young players from around the globe? Maybe they just need a bit more balance in the players they are buying?

What Maresca said

Maresca on academy players like Gallagher continually leaving:

“This is not Chelsea’s problem. This is the rules problem. The clubs are compelled to sell players because of the rules. It’s not a Chelsea problem, it is a Premier League problem.”

Many other people have mentioned this too and it certainly is an issue for many clubs.
