One Chelsea player’s future dramatically changed by latest €40m transfer news

Marc Guiu has had a busy summer since signing for Chelsea, jetting off on the USA tour after an intense two week training camp at Cobham, and picking up plenty of minutes stateside.

He spoke to Chelsea’s official website about what his experiences so far had been like.

“The whole team has helped me a lot. It’s a very young squad so that helps. We get along super well. Everyone in there, the players and the staff, have been very welcoming and supportive,” the striker explained.

The tour has been very positive because you get to spend a lot of time with the whole group. That brings people closer and you can focus more on training, training, training, and that helps too on a personal level. Personally, I want to get better and better every day and do as much as I can to help the team. I don’t have an objective in terms of scoring goals or things like this, I will try to do my best.”

The tables turn on Guiu despite impressive friendlies

The news that Chelsea are likely to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid for €40m is changing Guiu’s situation very quickly. For a while, the lack of contact with other forwards had us convinced that the Catalan was going to really stay as Nicolas Jackson’s primary backup, with Enzo Maresca likely also considering options like Christopher Nkunku as a false 9.

That impression was only enhanced by Guiu’s strong preseason showings, which were far in advance of what you’d expect from an 18 year old with just a handful of senior minutes played.

But now the Samu deal looks certain, the opposite is probably true. It would be a waste to have such a precocious teenager not playing, so it feels likely a loan is sorted out in the weeks to come.
