Surprise Premier League club remain firm admirers of Chelsea player despite transfer window being shut

Despite the transfer window closing Manchester United remain firm admirers of Carney Chukwuemeka according to reports.

The Blues had a busy end to the window as they completed a deal to sign Jadon Sancho, but they missed out on signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah all completed late loan moves to Arsenal, Everton and Crystal Palace respectively, but Ben Chilwell remains at the club.

United admire Chukwuemeka

One player who could have left was Chukwuemeka, and it was reported earlier this summer that he had a release clause of £40m in his contract.

The midfielder joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for £20m in 2022, but has been plagued by injuries and has only made 27 appearances across two seasons.

Having started the first two games of pre-season Chukwuemeka hasn’t kicked a ball since and was even left out of the match day squad for both legs of the Europa Conference League play-off against Servette.

Chukwuemeka appears set to stay at Chelsea.

There had been deadline day reports of the 20-year-old being involved in conversations over a possible deal for Sancho, but that didn’t materialise and the winger ended up joining Chelsea in a separate deal.

However, The Telegraph have reported that despite the window being closed the Red Devils remain firm admirers of Chukwuemeka.

There are still options for Chukwuemeka to leave as windows in Portugal, Holland, Turkey and Saudi Arabia remain open, although it appears more likely he will remain at Chelsea.

Quite what this means for the former Villa man remains to be seen, but if early season evidence is anything to go by it would appear his chances of getting any minutes are slim to none, which for a player of  his quality is a real shame.

It will be interesting to see what Chelsea decided to do but ultimately Chukwuemeka needs to be somewhere where he’s going to play regular football and it doesn’t appear likely that will be at Stamford Bridge.
