Romano: “100% off” – Key Chelsea transfer collapses, Blues left scrambling

Chelsea breaking news with a generic image.

Samu Omorodion’s move to Chelsea has stunningly collapsed, just as everything seemed lined up for him to be announced in the next few days.

We considered it a done deal – Fabrizio Romano had even given it his famous “here we go” to confirm a deal that he said was “already agreed.”

Well, not so, it seems. The insider has just made the major claim that the deal is “100% off” after a contract couldn’t be agreed between the young striker and the Blues.

“Major issues confirmed” Romano Tweeted rather obliquely. Other sources seem to be hinting it was an issue over the contract. Given the clubs had a deal and the player had travelled, it’s hard to see what else it might be.

Romano also implies that Omorodion will go somewhere else now that the Chelsea move is dead.

Chelsea left scrambling for Jackson ackup

Chelsea are now really scrambling, once again, for a striker solution as the season closes in. Their attempts for pretty much everyone this summer have come to nothing, from Victor Osimhen to Benjamin Sesko to Jhon Duran and now Omorodion. Nicolas Jackson has only played a handful of minutes and now the season is upon us.

There could well be false 9s coming in 10 days time when we play at home in the Conference League. There’s no way Jackson starts both leagues games and that match all in 7 days. Unless something spectacular happens in the market, Cole Palmer or Christopher Nkunku will be playing – or maybe Marc Guiu’s impressive start to life in a Chelsea shirt will mean a potential loan is cancelled and he’s instead given a sudden chance to be number two.

There are now also major questions about other deals – Atletico were planning on buying Conor Gallagher with the money coming from Chelsea for Omorodion. That move, and their headline-grabbing bid for Julian Alvarez are now seriously in question.
