Fabrizio Romano reports for CN.

Romano latest: £35m deal “all set”, only one thing needs to happen for Chelsea to complete transfer

After a very slow start to the summer, things are starting to move quickly in terms of transfer all across the continent.

Conor Gallagher’s move to Atletico Madrid was agreed on Sunday night, and that seems to have freed Chelsea’s hands a little as they look to improve elsewhere. Their first move looks like it will be signing an Atletico player in return.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest Tweet, the Blues are going to sign Samu Omorodion from the Spanish side for €35m. A seven year contract has already been agreed, and Atletico are happy with the fee.

There is one issue remaining – Atletico’s need to replace him. Diego Simeone’s side have already secured Alexander Sorloth, but are now looking for their crown jewel – Julian Alvarez from Manchester City. Romano says the whole Samu deal is continent upon that: “green light only when Atletico will complete all final steps for Julian Alvarez, he concluded.

Omorodion brings new depth up top

One can see why these sporting directors think Omorodion will work. He brings a lot of the things which Nicolas Jackson does, and also arrives as a slightly raw prospect with loads of potential and tools but not a huge amount of top flight experience.

The two of them, if developed correctly, could end up being a real menace. It’s a very big price to pay for an unproven player, but it seems the elite options were just too expensive.

Things went so quiet that we had started to think that we might be happy to go into this season with just Marc Guiu to play up front with Jackson, but clearly this deal has been ticking along in the background all along, waiting for a resolution with Gallagher. Next up is Alvarez, then we can consider it all done it seems.
