Clubs from across Europe have enquired about Chelsea ace who’s set to leave after one season

Multiple clubs from across Europe have made enquiries about Djordje Petrovic according to The Athletic, with the goalkeeper up for sale this summer.

Petrovic, who isn’t part of the squad for the pre-season tour of America is set to depart after just one season at the club following the arrival of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

The Serbian only arrived from MLS side New England Revolution in a deal worth £14m last summer and impressed on his debut campaign, but it seems he’s now surplus to requirements.

Several European clubs interested in Petrovic

Chelsea signed two goalkeepers in Petrovic and Robert Sanchez last summer so the last thing perhaps expected was the signing of another goalkeeper this summer.

However, Enzo Maresca seemingly identified the position as an area that needs improving and the Blues signed Jorgensen, who is thought to fit the Italian’s style much better.

Maresca likes his goalkeeper to be heavily involved in the build up play and good distribution is essential which in all honesty isn’t Petrovic’s strength.

Petrovic is set to leave Chelsea after just one season at the club.

Sanchez in theory is better suited to Maresca’s style although he’s still got a lot of convincing to do with many supporters believing he doesn’t have the quality to be the club’s number one.

Reports have suggested the Spaniard will start the season as first choice, although it will be interesting to see how long it takes for Jorgensen to displace him.

This means that a goalkeeper needs to leave and Petrovic despite his good form last season is set to be the fall guy.

The Athletic have reported several European clubs have made enquiries for the Serbia international who is up for sale this summer.

It remains to be seen what Chelsea’s asking price would be, but you would imagine they are in line to make a profit on the £14m they paid for the 24-year-old last summer.

It’s a shame for Petrovic to seemingly be on the way out after just one season, but he’s unfortunately the victim of not suiting the manager’s style of play.
