Stunning exclusive claims Chelsea could sell their brightest academy star for €15m – despite big progress this summer

If there was one thing that all Chelsea fans could get excited about this summer, regardless of their takes on the ownership of the squad building being done at Stamford Bridge, it was the sight of youngsters Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George being included on the club’s list of players for the preseason tour.

We’ve seen flashes of their talent – now it was their chance to impress the coaches. They even got some game time out there in the early games. It felt like an olive branch from the ownership which is frustrating fans by selling off so many academy players – that there was another generation coming through which they would treasure.

But now there’s some really worrying news coming from Miguel Delaney at the Independent. He doesn’t make a career out of going around breaking transfer stories, so we’re inclined to listen when he has something new.

He says that Real Madrid and PSG are both looking at Acheampong as they “seek to sort out the future of their right back positions.”

He is a player that Chelsea “would consider selling” due to their struggles to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Chelsea’s new strategy destroying the team from within

Madrid and PSG are “eyeing a potential fee of around €15m,” which would be so scandalous it’s hard to imagine the reaction. Chelsea are spending more than that on 6/10 goalkeepers every summer, imagine if we were to sell off the current academy crown jewel for that?

Chelsea’s policy of selling off their young talents to fund expensive first team transfers has not gone unnoticed in the academy, and Delaney writes that it’s “had a profound impact at that level.” We’d love to see how the club try to justify losing a player like Acheampong.
