Surprise recall and debut for in-form winger – big Chelsea international news

The first international break of the season is coming up, always a body blow just after we’ve started enjoying having the league underway.

There is cold comfort to be had in it all, but at least we get the excitement of seeing which Blues will get called up for their countries.

Most squads aren’t out yet, but there’s already some exciting Chelsea news to share.

The France squad has just been released, and it’s great to see Wesley Fofana included. This is surprising not only because he’s missed the best part of 3 years, but also because of the ridiculous depth in Les Bleus’ talent pool. But Didier Deschamps is notorious for his loyalty to players, and this is a clear example of that. It’s incredibly hard to earn his faith, but once you have it, you’ve got it for good.

Wesley has not been tested much this season yet – and was actually very shaky in his preseason appearances, but he’s clearly Enzo Maresca’s first choice central defender, and will likely improve steadily through the season as he shakes off years worth of rust. We’re so happy for him after such a tough period in his career.

Noni gets the nod after impressive summer

The other notable callup (not confirmed yet, but leaked by David Ornstein) is Noni Madueke getting his debut England nod. Lee Carsley, who has taken over as interim coach, knows him well from the youth setup, and has decided to give him the nod after a strong start to the season with the Blues.

We’re delighted for Noni, who was being linked with moves away just a couple of weeks ago. He still has a lot of development to do, but his quality has always been there, and this is a great reward for a strong summer.
