Enzo Maresca was put on the spot in his press conference tonight with questions about the booing which was very clear at Stamford Bridge at half time, and in the second half, shortly before the Noni Madueke goal, which saw groans as the ball was passed backwards.
Maresca said he was happy with the way his players had controlled the tempo in those moments, but admitted there were issues with where on the pitch and when in the game it happened.
This was a very smart diplomatic way of managing this question, and Maresca kept it all very light and friendly. He knows the standards are high, he knows patience is very short due to reasons far beyond his time and control, and he also knows it will only take a few wins to change things dramatically for the better.
