Chelsea’s heavy spending in the transfer market over the last few years was supposed to revolutionise the squad, at vast expense.
Yet it’s the even of the new season, and as they pointed out on the London is Blue podcast, we don’t even have a centre back we can trust, let alone a full team.
Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo have all looked very poor in our preseason games, partly because they’ve been exposed by the system, but partly just from mistakes and poor performances which they can’t really blame on anyone else.
The only other option is Axel Disasi, who is usually regarded as the least talented of them all, and hasn’t been fit to play a minute of preseason.
With Man City up this weekend, it’s a very worrying situation to be in. Our confidence it at “rock bottom,” as one of the podcast guests put it.
