Why defender is “desperate” to show Chelsea what he can do after

Wesley Fofana has had quite the start to life as a Chelsea player.

He was signed two seasons ago, and missed both campaigns almost entirely injured. This summer was his chance to get back integrated, yet he found himself caught up in the Enzo Fernandez racist chant situation before he’d even kicked a ball in preseason.

With that issue now (apparently) resolved after the Argentine apologised, it’s on to the football. And even that didn’t go so well – two bad performances in our two first friendlies saw the Frenchman catching a lot of flak. But speaking to the Athletic, he made it clear that he’s keen to make up for all that lost time:

“Am I desperate to show why Chelsea bought me? Yes, of course, and also because I love my club. I said when I joined Chelsea that I realised my dream. I want to perform, I am hungry. I want to win titles for sure. I am ready to work hard for that.

“Chelsea is a big club and we have had two years that have been complicated, but we have the quality and the talent, a good coach and staff, we have everything it takes to win titles. We are in a good process and we will go for it. I hope we win everything.”

Our big wish for talented defender

We just pray that Fofana gets the chance to show what he can do this season. It’s so unfair for injuries to have robbed him of his chance to shine, and to have robbed Chelsea of someone who could have been a key piece in their defence for two years.

He will need to shake off some of the rust we’ve seen in recent weeks, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem if his body doesn’t let him down.
