2 Chelsea stars expected start tomorrow after Maresca comments

It’s Wednesday already, and the weekend is closing in fast.

That’s especially true considering Chelsea are playing in the early kick off slot this Saturday. It’s going to feel very different to last week’s 8pm start.

Two players who missed that game were Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia. Both would be certainly starters for Enzo Maresca if fit, as they showed earlier in the season. Both have been expected to return for this game, and a mini update from Chelsea today confirmed they’re both in training.

“There was further good news as Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia continued their rehabilitation with another modified session as they continue their recovery from injury,” read the caption under a photo of them working out at Cobham.

Modified session could mean a lot of things.

A “modified session” is a slightly ambiguous term. It could well be that they did 90% of the work with everyone else and will rejoin the main group in training tomorrow.

That would give them all of tomorrow’s session, plus the usual Friday preparation session, to get in shape for the match against West Ham.

However if they’re further off than anticipated, it could be that one or both of them were just working at 50%, and we may be forced to wait another week to see them.

Given the balance of the reports of the last few weeks, and the fact that both seemed close to playing a week ago, we’re confident that both should be ready for a start against the Hammers. We will find out more in Friday’s press conference, where Enzo Maresca will give a full update on the squad. Last week he said that “Romeo is very close” and will be available “for the next game.”

Well, we’re about to find out.
