Exiled Chelsea star happy to do one thing if he remains at the club

Ben Chilwell would be more than happy to feature in the Carabao Cup if he remains at Chelsea beyond this week according to reports.

It’s been made clear to Chilwell that he’s no longer part of the plans at the club and he’s been training away from the first since returning from the pre-season tour of America.

The warning signs were there in pre-season, with Chilwell only playing 64 minutes and he’s not been named in a single match day squad this season.

Chilwell was reportedly offered to Manchester United who are believed to have turned down the chance to sign the England international, but other than that there have seemingly been no suitors for the 27-year-old.

The market in Turkey remains open until Friday but the chances of Chilwell sealing a switch appear remote at this late stage and he faces the prospect of playing not football until January.

It’s unclear who Chilwell is training with given multiple members of the “bomb squad” have departed the club and it’s believed his reported £200,000 per week wages are a stumbling block.

The left back was omitted from Chelsea’s squad for the league phase of the Europa Conference league and is likely to be left out of Chelsea’s 25 man Premier League squad.

That would leave Chilwell with one option if he stays, which is the Carabao Cup and Mail Sport have reported he would be more than happy to feature if given the chance.

Chelsea welcome League Two side Barrow to Stamford Bridge later this month in the third round of the competition as they look to go one better after losing last season’s final.

It seemingly makes little sense for Chilwell not to play at all until January if he remains at Chelsea as his value is just going to go down and he needs to play in an attempt to put himself in the shop window.

The Blues are facing a potentially difficult situation and there are seemingly no winners if he stays and doesn’t play football for best part of four months.
