Chelsea surprisingly ignored two deadline day enquiries for talented youngster

Chelsea ignored two enquiries from top ten Premier League clubs for Deivid Washington on deadline day according to The Athletic.

It was once again a hectic summer at Stamford Bridge with a number of new faces coming through the door, the most high profile of which were Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Joao Felix.

The Blues also faced the task of moving a number of players on and whilst they were able to make several sales and sort late loan moves for Armando Broja, Trevoh Chalobah and Raheem Sterling, there were still players they couldn’t find solutions for.

Some transfer windows remained open until Monday and Chelsea took advantage of that by selling Angelo Gabriel to Saudi side Al-Nassr for €23m.

Another player they would like to have found a solution for is 19-year-old Washington, who arrived at the club last summer from Santos and has played just 25 minutes for the first team.

It was an eventful deadline day for the striker who thought he was going to join sister club Strasbourg for €21m, before Chelsea reportedly pulled the plug on the deal amid reported concerns the Premier League may investigate the transfer.

It then appeared he would join Championship side Hull on loan but that deal didn’t go through as there wasn’t enough time left in the transfer window.

The Athletic have reported the Blues turned down enquiries from two top ten Premier League clubs on deadline day for Washington as he’s not a player they wish to sell.

Brazilian side Flamengo are in talks over a possible loan move but the clock is ticking on that one, and it seems likely that Washington could remain at Chelsea until January.

It’s clearly an indication the club believe in his talent but it seems Washington is still some way from the first team picture, and playing under-21 football until at least January if a move can’t be sorted seems a bit counter productive.
