Chelsea very happy with how top prospect has started season and even turned down summer approach

Chelsea turned down an approach from a “big club” for Levi Colwill this summer and are very happy with the defender’s start to the season according to reports.

The Blues continued their mixed start to the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon, which means they have four points from their opening three Premier League games.

Colwill, who has switched to the number six shirt vacated by Thiago Silva has started all three league games alongside Wesley Fofana in the heart of the Chelsea defence and the duo appear to be Enzo Maresca’s first choice.

Having had so many different defensive partnerships last season due to various factors including injuries, Maresca will be hoping for some continuity from his centre back pairing.

The Blues conceded a club record number of goals under Mauricio Pochettino in the league last season and have conceded two goals in three of their five matches in all competitions this season.

Colwill signed a new long term contract with Chelsea last summer.

The defensive performance against Palace was a lot better, but Chelsea were unable to clear their lines properly from a set piece, which led to Eberechi Eze’s equaliser.

Chelsea are big believes in Colwill, who came through the ranks at the club and signed a new long term contract during pre-season last summer.

However, he has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Brighton in the past, and Mail Sport journalist Kieran Gill has reported the Blues turned down an approach from an unnamed “big club” for Colwill this summer, and also stated Chelsea are very happy with his start to the season.

Having missed the back end of last season with a toe injury the Blues will be hoping Colwill can stay fit this season, with the England international set for a key role under Maresca as the club try and get back into the Champions League.
