“Constructive criticism” – Chelsea cult hero explains what current player needs to improve

There has been some ‘constructive criticism offered by one former Chelsea player who became a cult hero at the club, aimed in the direction of a current Blues player.

It’s something that does happen a lot at the moment and former players, pundits, media, and even the fans, have every right to offer critique to players and that should be expected really. It’s when the critique turns to an agenda or abuse is when things become a little more uncomfortable and unfair, but I think we all have a right to say what we think a player is doing right and wrong and if we rate them.

EXCL: Reece James recovery progress and exactly where he is – is there really a setback?

That is exactly what John Obi Mikel has been doing with Nicolas Jackson. It sounds like he rates him, but he has been offering some critique about him in front of goal.

As cited on X, Mikel said on Jackson:

“It’s not coming from a bad place, it’s really constructive criticism. But he doesn’t (see it that way). That’s why when he scored, he told me to shut up!

“I’ve always said what I’ve said about Nicolas Jackson. He is a good player, there is not once I have ever said he is a bad player.

“The only criticism is his finishing needs to be much better. In terms of giving us what we want, being in the right place at the right time, he does for the team.”

This is completely fair by the way, and a good way to say it.
