Enzo Maresca is a very diplomatic coach. He knows he’s been promoted very quickly to a big team after being picked by our sporting directors, and has to keep them happy.
So when he was questioned repeatedly in the window about whether he was struggling with an overly large group, he continually denied it, not wanting to make them look bad.
But when Joe Cole asked him before today’s game whether he was happy that the transfer window had closed, he admitted he was.
He insisted it wasn’t just him – that all managers like it when “finally the transfer window closes, you can be more focused on the players you have.”
So even now, he’s careful to not put any blame or negativity on those above him. But we think he’s right, all the coaches will be relieved they can actually do some coaching now.
