Enzo Maresca gives frustrating update on Malo Gusto injury

It’s wasn’t just a bad result for Chelsea today as they drew 1-1 at home with Crystal Palace, it was also bad vibes. When Malo Gusto went down injured the stadium went quiet, and he was immediately replaced.

We had hoped it was just a cramp. He reached for his hamstring, but it wasn’t an explosive move which caused it, so we are praying it’s just fatigue rather than a tear.

All eyes and ears were then of course on Enzo Maresca after the game, hoping for an update. But the Chelsea manager wasn’t giving much away at all:

“Looks like a muscle problem. We will see,” the coach said to the press.

A muscle problem sounds worse than a cramp, even in the best case scenario. Gusto had a few issues last season, and it would be a shame to see those continue.

Blues set to be in the dark for two weeks

It’s a little frustrating to get such a vague update, especially given it’s the start of an international break now. We are going to be left wondering for two weeks just how serious it really is, and we’re unlikely to get any sort of update, unless one of the journalists plugged in at Chelsea gets the scoop.

It’s the same story with Reece James – the injury he picked up at the end of preseason seemed minor, yet he’s still not even made the bench in the Conference League. This two week break SHOULD be enough to make sure he’s good to go against Bournemouth on the 14th – but really we’ve got no clue, as with Gusto.

We will all be paying close attention to the training footage that comes out when the players return that week, and then wait for Maresca’s pre-match presser.

  1. Chelsea is a different thing than what we were expecting under this new era.
Maresca is another problem for Chelsea for my understanding, Chelsea team is not playing spackling football under Enzo Maresca’s management, Gusto is injured now, can you bring back Chalo from Crystal Palace?
