Enzo Maresca on boos from Chelsea fans.

Enzo Maresca sends warning to Chelsea ahead of Carabao Cup tie against Barrow

Enzo Maresca has described Chelsea’s Carabao Cup tie against League Two side Barrow on Tuesday evening as dangerous and stated the Blues need to take it seriously.

Chelsea have started the season positively and after Saturday’s win against West Ham Maresca’s side sit fifth in the league with ten points from their opening five games.

The Blues now have a run of four home games in all competitions before the next international break and will be hoping to build some positive momentum.

The Carabao Cup represents the first opportunity to win silverware this season and having lost the final last season the Blues will be looking to go one better and get their hands on a first domestic trophy since the FA Cup in 2017.

Maresca’s men will be looking to make it three wins in a row in all competitions against the League Two leaders, but the Italian did issue a word of warning in his pre-match press conference.

“It’s dangerous because football is full of these [supposed] ‘easy’ games,” he told reporters.

“In this moment, it’s the worst game for us. We need to take it seriously. We can’t allow ourselves to drop.”

Maresca is expected to make wholesale changes to the team with a number of fringe players set to be given the opportunity to impress.

Whilst Chelsea shouldn’t have any problems against Barrow it’s always dangerous going into a game against a team that has nothing to lose and the Blues will need to be fully focused.

Chelsea fans could see two potential stars of the the future in Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong, with Maresca confirming the youngsters would be in the squad.

There’s always a danger of a disjointed performance when so many changes are made, but such is the quality in Chelsea’s squad there really shouldn’t be an issue whoever is on the pitch.
