Stopwatches away! We’re just hit day 6 of September and there we have it – the first new transfer rumour emerging with January in mind.
6 days shows pretty remarkable restraint, all things considered. And it’s a very interesting new rumours too.
TBR Football claim to have sources telling them that the Blues have their eye on a young defender already playing in the Premier League – Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior.
Brought in as a backup, Kiwior has since been pushed further and further down the pecking order by the likes of Riccardo Calafiori’s arrival, and the Poland international almost moved back to Serie A in the summer.
That didn’t happen, and he now faces a long wait until January to try again to find a move elsewhere. Arsenal have persuaded him to stay put until then, but after that point it seems they will be open to cashing in. Chelsea are one of the interested parties.
Apparently the Gunners and their coach Mikel Arteta “rate very highly” the youngster after seeing him up close for 18 months and have done all they can to persuade him to stay.
Opportunistic Chelsea ready to pounce
Chelsea see the opportunity to pick up an undervalued asset here, and they’re keen to take advantage. With Trevoh Chalobah now loaned out and moving ever closer to a permanent switch, we can well see a situation where we sell the home grown kid and bring in Kiwior in January. Our loan of Raheem Sterling to Arsenal shows we’re not afraid to do business with the Gunners if it benefits us both, and this could be a chance for us to do more with them.
Waiting until January gives us a chance to see which of our other defenders are up to it.
