Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has been speaking to the media this weekend after starting the season playing some of the best football he has ever played.

Colwill struggled at times last season but to me that was mainly because he was not playing in his best position as a centre back under Mauricio Pochettino and also, the team was not playing that great on the whole last season.

This season they have started strong as a group and are starting to string together some good results, so things are certainly looking up in general under Enzo Maresca.

The new Chelsea head coach has come in and has got Chelsea playing some nice transitional football and looking very dangerous on the counter attack, and Colwill has played his part to try and keep a compact defensive line to attempt to intercept and counter.

Players knocking on Maresca’s door

Colwill has started the season so well

Maresca has a large group of quality players in his squad, and they all want to play.

Colwill has explained to London World what they are doing to try and get in the side.

He said:

“Players are knocking on Maresca’s door every day saying, ‘Why am I not playing?’ So in training, you’ve got to be at your best, and when you step onto the pitch… you’ve got to be at your best to keep your shirt. That’s how it should be.”

This is a great problem to have and how it should be at a top club. This competition is what could really elevate Chelsea again.
