Levi Colwill has incredible passing accuracy and is preferring playing centre back

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has racked up a superb passing accuracy percentage so far this season, and it comes as no surprise that he is doing this from his preferred position at centre back.

Colwill has been a regular feature for Enzo Maresca at the back so far this season, starting every game. And perhaps vitally, he is starting games as a centre back rather than a left back, which is where Mauricio Pochettino deployed him at a lot of the time last season.

It’s been clear to see that Colwill has been playing so much better as a centre back, and he looks more confident and more competent in that position than he ever did being forced to play as a full back.

The Athletic have an article out on Colwill today, and they have detailed his impressive stats.

Colwill has played very well this season

The report states that Enzo Maresca’s game is all about keeping possession and Levi Colwill is doing that better than anyone at the club this season. According to Fbref, Colwill has completed 277 passes out of 299, a passing accuracy of 92.6 per cent.

They also say that it is noticeable how Colwill is growing in stature with each match he plays in his preferred position at left centre-back. It was one of the topics that came up during good-natured conversations with Enzo Maresca in pre-season. While Colwill is prepared to play anywhere the Italian wants him to, just like with Pochettino, he did admit his desire to play as a left-sided centre-back.
