Nicolas Jackson explains the details behind the move which lead to his goal against Crystal Palace

Nicolas Jackson has revealed that the counter attacking goal he scored against Crystal Palace is something the Blues work on everyday in training.

It was reported before the game that Jackson had agreed terms on a two year contract extension following a really promising debut season in which he scored 17 goals in all competitions.

The 23-year-old marked the occasion with his second league goal in as many games, but the Blues were unable to add any further goals and were held to a 1-1 draw by the Eagles, which leaves them with four points from their opening three games.

Jackson on the scoresheet again

Chelsea took the lead against Palace with a brilliant counter attack which started inside their own half and involved Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer, before Jackson tapped the ball home.

It’s exactly the sort of free flowing football Enzo Maresca is likely looking for from the Blues, and Jackson revealed afterwards it’s something they practice every day in training.

“It was a fantastic counter-attack,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“We train on this every time at the training ground, so we know exactly what we need to do on the pitch as well.”

Jackson has two goals in three Premier League games this season.

Jackson had a good chance to win the game at the death but he was thwarted by Dean Henderson in the Palace goal.

On that miss Jackson admitted it was a great chance, and hopefully he would score next time he’s in that position.

“It was a great chance to win the game,” he added.

“It was the last minute, I was a little bit tired, but I made the run and hopefully next time I will score one like this.”

Having failed to sign a striker in the window there will once again be a lot of pressure on Jackson to lead the line and provide the goals the Blues are looking for.

The Senegal international has started the season well with two goals in the opening three games and he’s on the way to hopefully bettering last season’s tally of 14 league goals.
