Chelsea star opens up on challenge set to him by Enzo Maresca

Noni Madueke believes it’s only a positive that Enzo Maresca wants to push him to get the best out of himself in training every day.

It’s been a mixed start to the season for the Blues with four points from their first three games and they were unable to follow up the win against Wolves after drawing 1-1 against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Despite results not completely going the way they would have wanted, Madueke, who finished last season strongly has had a really positive start to the new campaign.

The 22-year-old has three goals in the opening three Premier League games and four in five in all competitions, with his fine start to the season rewarded with a first senior England call-up for the games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Despite the fierce competition for places in the wide areas, which has only increased following the arrivals of Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho, Madueke is doing all he can to make that right wing position his own.

Madueke has been called up to the England squad for the first time.

The England under-21 international has spoken after Maresca set him the challenge to be consistent in training every day and described it as a good thing.

“I feel like it’s only a positive,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“He wants to push me and wants to make sure I get the best out of myself in every single training session. Top players train to their fullest every single day, so that’s for sure what I strive to be as well.”

Madueke isn’t the only Chelsea star called up to the England squad and he will be joined by team-mates Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill, with all three part of the side which won the under-21 Euros on 2023.

The Blues will be hoping the trio come through the international break unscathed, with all three set to play a key role for the club this season as they look to win silverware and qualify for the Champions Leauge.
