Chelsea preseason lineup, fairly generic.

The “most consistent” Chelsea player impressing with his “work ethic” and passing

A late win always brings a positive mood, and Chelsea have a free week to bask in the good vibes and hopefully have some good sessions in training after they beat Bournemouth on Saturday night.

One person who is likely to be impressing at Cobham – after some well earned rest and recovery – is Levi Colwill. Why Levi? Well, the respected and well connected Ben Jacobs claims that he’s ben the “most consistent trainer at Cobham and that his “work ethic” has “impressed head coach Enzo Maresca.”

We’re delighted to hear it, and delighted to have Levi come back into the spotlight at Chelsea. We’ve not been as excited about a defensive prospect for a long time, and a year ago he was making a similarly strong start. But as with so many others, injuries cost him chunks of the season and a lot of his rhythm.

The summer looks to have done him good, and from day one he seems to have convinced Maresca. Tosin Adarabioyo has never really seemed to be in the race.

Levi Colwill makes his competitive England debut.

Another big step forward

A year ago Colwill was doing well despite being a sort of tucked-in left back in Mauricio Pochettino’s system. Now Marc Cucurella plays that role, and Colwill is able to be a proper central defender, spraying the ball around and punching it into midfield to start attacks. He’s got the best passing numbers in the team.

Maresca should be great for his game, and if he stays fit this could be the season he establishes himself for club and country. He got a start for England at left back in the last international break, and Lee Carsley knows him well. Keep playing for Chelsea and he looks likely to keep playing for his country too.
