“We don’t need to talk too much” – £70m man opens up on what it’s like to play with Chelsea ace

Wesley Fofana has opened up on his partnership with Levi Colwill and believes the pair are getting better every game they play together.

Fofana arrived at Chelsea in 2022 from Leicester City in a deal worth an initial £70m but his time at Stamford Bridge has been plagued by injury issues.

The 23-year-old missed the whole of last season with an ACL injury and during his two years at the club he’s made just 24 appearances.

Both Chelsea and Fofana will be hoping this season is different and after coming through pre-season unscathed and getting some much needed minutes back in his legs, the Frenchman has started all four Premier League games under Enzo Maresca.

Fofana and Colwill are currently Maresca’s first choice centre back pairing and the duo recorded their first clean sheet of the season last weekend against Bournemouth.

The partnership is very much in it’s infancy, but there have certainly been some promising early signs that the duo can become a formidable force in the heart of Chelsea’s defence.

The pair hadn’t played together before the start of this season due to Fofana’s injury last season but the France international believes they are getting every game.

“On the pitch it’s simple, I know him, he knows me and every game is a little bit better,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“We don’t need to talk too much. I feel good with him, he feels good with me.

“Away from the pitch we have a very good relationship. We are not just teammates, he’s a friend, my guy.”

Both Fofana and Colwill are very talented defenders and it will interesting to see how the partnership develops over the course of the season.

Last season Chelsea were poor defensively as they conceded a club record amount of goals in the Premier League and it’s an area they must improve in under Maresca, with Fofana and Colwill set to be key to changing that.
