Chelsea face anxious wait with key man to undergo medical tests on international duty

Wesley Fofana will undergo tests at the France national team base in Clairefontaine at Chelsea’s request for a blow to his right shin suffered three weeks ago according to reports.

Fofana has started every Premier League game for the Blues this season and alongside Levi Colwill the pair have established themselves as Enzo Maresca’s first choice pairing.

His start to the season has rightfully earned him a place back in the France squad and Fofana appears to be getting back towards his best game by game having missed the entire of last season with an ACL injury.

Fofana to undergo tests on his shin

The 23-year-old has been plagued by injury issues during his time at Chelsea, with both he and the Blues hoping those issues are behind him.

Fofana has looked rusty on a few occasions this season and made a couple of errors this campaign, which are to be expected given how long he’s been out for.

The Frenchman will be hoping to play some part in the France’s upcoming games against Israel and Belgium in the Nations League as he looks to add to his one cap.

However, it had been reported that Fofana was a doubt for the upcoming games and could be struggling with his fitness.

Journalist Fabrice Hawkins has provided an update on the situation and states that Chelsea have requested Fofana undergo tests on his shin.

He took to X.com and said:

“At Chelsea’s request, Wesley Fofana will undergo tests at Clairefontaine this Monday evening, for a blow received to the right shin three weeks ago. Barring any unpleasant surprises, he should however be able to stay with the Blues @RMCsport.”

It doesn’t sound like it’s anything to worry about and is very much just a precaution given Fofana would have played against Brighton and Nottingham Forest with the reported issue.

The former Leicester man is suspended for Chelsea’s next game against Liverpool and won’t be back in action for the Blues until the game against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on October 27th.
