Enzo Maresca responds to question asking if Filip Jorgensen is close to being Chelsea’s No.1

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has been asked whether Filip Jorgensen is now close to becoming Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper.

At the moment, Robert Sanchez is the No.1 at the club, but Jorgensen has been taking the reigns in the cup competitions and is highly likely to be starting tonight against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.

But Sanchez has not been very good this season in the majority of the games he plays, and Chelsea fans are not too happy with him being the club’s number one.

However, it seems that Maresca IS happy with him, and he has continued to defend his goalkeeper in many odd comments in recent weeks. Chelsea fans have been puzzled by this.

Sanchez always has a big mistake in him and also, his distribution has been under question as well. As a goalkeeper, if you make a big mistake then it will often lead to a goal. And Chelsea fans in general, just do not trust Sanchez between the sticks.

Maresca DOES trust Sanchez though

Sanchez has been under fire this season

The Daily Mail reporter Kieran Gill asked Maresca in the press conference yesterday whether Sanchez is still his number one of if Jorgensen was now close to taking the first-choice goalkeeper spot off of him.

This was his response:

“No. At the moment, the No 1 is Robert Sanchez. Filip is doing fantastic in the Carabao Cup, the Conference League. But at the moment, there is no doubt Robert is the No 1.”

So, there we have it. That settles that one. Maresca is still putting his full backing behind Sanchez, much to the annoyance of Chelsea fans. Luckily the results are good, so you wont be hearing too much about this or too much discontent from fans. Let’s just hope those results continue to be good.
