“He’s doing fantastic with us” – Maresca’s latest comments on Chelsea star will leave fans absolutely baffled

Enzo Maresca has insisted he’s happy with Robert Sanchez despite the goalkeeper coming under fire for his performance against Liverpool.

Chelsea slipped to their second defeat of the season on Sunday as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners in a tightly contested game at Anfield.

Despite losing the Blues gave a good account of themselves and there were plenty of positives including the performance of Pedro Neto, with Frank Lampard calling for the winger to start Chelsea’s next league game.

However, Sanchez has been criticised for his performance and particularly his role in Liverpool’s second goal scored by Curtis Jones.

Jamie Carragher was shocked at how poor Sanchez was and believes the Blues need to sign a new goalkeeper if they are to compete for the title.

Sanchez has put in some impressive performances for Chelsea this season, but the general consensus amongst the fans and media is that he’s not good enough for the Blues.

He’s an experienced goalkeeper and it always feel like it’s a matter of when not if he’s going to make a mistake, which is not what you want from your keeper.

It seems at least publicly that Maresca is happy with Sanchez and after the game he once again praised the Spaniard.

“I’m very happy with Robert, he’s doing fantastic with us. Not only in building from the back but also making saves,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport as cited on X.com.

Chelsea fans will be baffled by those comments as it’s evident he’s not up to the task and the former Brighton man is so inconsistent.

For all the money Chelsea have spent on goalkeepers and the amount they have signed it’s really hard to understand why the club didn’t go out and sign a top class shot stopper.

It’s more than likely summer signing Filip Jorgensen will come in for the Conference league game against Panathinaikos on Thursday, but it appears Sanchez won’t be losing the number one spot any time soon.
